Cladonia bimberiensis A.W.Archer

  Basal squamules persistent, 0.5–1 mm long, 0.3–0.5 mm diam., esorediate; margins crenate, yellow-green above, white below. Podetia growing from basal squamules, 1–3 cm, rarely to 6 cm tall, 0.7–2 mm diam., wall 0.15–0.2 mm thick, simple, more or less cylindrical, rough corticate at base, becoming ecorticate and densely floury-sorediate, esquamulose or occasionally with squamules on lower part, escyphiferous, or with scyphi, pale yellow; scyphi shallow, deformed, with marginal proliferations and floury-sorediate interior. Apothecia not seen. Pycnidia terminal or marginal on scyphi, 0.3–0.4 × 0.1–0.2 mm, subconical, brown. Conidia not seen. CHEMISTRY: K-, KC+ yellow, P-. Usnic (major), barbatic (major) and 4-O-demethyl barbatic (minor) acids.
     
  Occurs above 600 m in Vic., A.C.T. and Tas; also in the South Island of New Zealand; grows on dead wood, rarely on peat.
